HK_00225Paca Paca Farm

Dr. Harry Sweeney is a trailblazer in the development of Japanese racing. In 1990, Harry and his wife, Anne, landed on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido where 95% of thoroughbreds in Japan are bred. Sweeney was the first foreigner to be granted permission to purchase agricultural land for the purposes of establishing a thoroughbred breeding farm in Japan. He also became the first westerner to attain an owner’s licence granted by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). In his managerial position at Taiki Farm and Racing, Harry was responsible for horses such as Horse of the Year Taiki Shuttle and the G1 Mile Championship winner Shinko Lovely.

Paca Paca Farm, established by Harry in 2005, is one of Japan’s most successful commercial breeding farms, home to up to 50 active broodmares. Paca Paca has to date bred three G1 winners including Japanese Derby winner Deep Brillante, NHK Mile winner Clarity Sky and Pink Cameo among many other black-type horses.
