MONTHLY ACCOUNT PAYABLES

In addition to investment in racehorse shares, additional costs for maintenance, insurance premium and membership fees is required.

Membership Fee Membership application is required for every new investor who wishes to purchase shares in a syndicated horse. A 2,000 JPY (approximate 18 USD) monthly fee will be charged per member regardless of the number of shares held.
Insurance Insurance premium will vary between horses. Currently, the applicable annual insurance premium rate is 3.2% and the amount insured for two-year-old is 100% of its syndicate price.
Maintenance Fee The maintenance fee refers to monthly expenses payable including but not limited to farrier and veterinary service, entry fees, training fees, transportation, etc. Maintenance costs will be charged from January of the horse’s two-year-old year. Monthly maintenance fees of a club horse is around 500,000 JPY (approximate 4,762 USD) per month and 1,000 JPY (approximate 10 USD) pro rata.(assuming 500 shares, may vary according to actual cost)If there is a surplus at retirement, overcharged expenses will be reimbursed.

 

Prize Money Distribution

Prize money received after deductions (trainer and jockey percentages, etc) will be distributed to members according to the number of shares held. Prize money consists of main prize pool, the distance bonus, the Japanese-bred thoroughbred bonus, the participation incentive money. Prize money consists of the main prize pool plus various subsidies and performance bonuses available to Japanese-bred horses racing in the JRA.

Retirement

  • Colts/Geldings

There is no fixed date for retirement. If a syndicated horse is sold to a third party or at public auction after racing retirement, resulting revenue will be distributed to its investors.

 

  • Fillies/Mares

Mares shall be retired at the end of their five-year-old season.  Early retirement may be arranged due to physical conditions, racing performance, and other reasons. However, if a syndicated filly/mare retires, the breeder will have priority to buy it back at an previously agreed price. Revenue generated from this will be distributed to members.
